Grand River Dinner Cruises is a family-owned and operated business that operates from mid-May to mid-October. We have approximately 40 seasonal employees and provide a friendly, respectful workplace.  We aim to foster an environment and culture that makes these roles suitable to students, retirees/snowbirds, or individuals who are only looking to work in the summer months as you have other plans for the winter. Positions available for 2026 season:

MC/HOST
Positions available: 1-2

Are you comfortable speaking in front of a crowd and love connecting with people? This unique seasonal opportunity is ideal for theatre students, performers, or retirees who enjoy entertaining and creating memorable guest experiences.

We are looking for an energetic and personable MC/Host to join our team for our popular Blazing Fiddles performances.

Tuesday to Friday availability is required

What you'll do:

  • Welcome and greet guests upon arrival

  • Assist in our snack bar

  • Usher guests during boarding

  • Serve as the opening and closing MC for the Blazing Fiddles show

The Blazing Fiddles perform Tuesday through Friday in our auditorium for audiences of approximately 150 guests each day before they depart on their lunch cruise. As MC, you’ll help set the tone for an engaging and enjoyable experience.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday to Friday

  • 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • 3–4 days per week

  • Season runs May 21 through October 10

Requirements:

  • Confident public speaker with a friendly, outgoing personality

  • Comfortable engaging large groups

  • Ability to lift and carry trays as needed

WAIT STAFF
Positions available:  3-4

Do you enjoy working with a team, interacting with the public, and staying active in a fast-paced environment? Are you comfortable working outdoors in a variety of summer weather conditions? If so, we’d love to have you join our team!

Our meals are served banquet-style aboard our three dinner cruise boats. As part of our wait staff team, you’ll help create a seamless and enjoyable dining experience for our guests.

Availability until mid-October is required

Responsibilities:

  • Set and prepare tables before boarding

  • Assist with plating and serving meals

  • Clear tables and wash dishes

  • Bartend (for team members 18+)

Position details:

  • Part-time – approximately 10-15 hours per week

  • Various shifts between 10:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday through Sunday

  • Must be available through mid-October

BAKER
Positions available:  1

Do you have a passion for baking or want to gain experience in a professional kitchen? We are looking for a dedicated baker to join our team and prepare delicious, homemade bread and pies from scratch for our dinner cruises.

Morning availability is required

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare baked goods using standardized recipes

  • Ensure food is ready on schedule to support our cruise departures

  • Work efficiently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks

  • Mix and roll pie dough 

  • Mix &/Knead bread dough

  • Prepare muffins from pre-mix batter

You must be able to work independently and efficiently, with excellent multi-tasking skills. The bakery is located in our shore-based kitchen, which is not air-conditioned, so being comfortable working in a warm environment is essential.

 

Position Details:

  • Morning shifts starting at 6:00 a.m.

  • 2-3 shifts per week, totaling 10-20 hours hours per week

  • Shifts range from 4 hours (weekdays) to 7 hours (weekends)

  • Some heavy lifting required (e.g., flour bags, bread trays)

We are willing to train the right candidate, even without professional baking experience.  Food Handlers Certificate will be required.

BOAT CAPTAIN

This role is ideal for a semi-retired or retired individual who enjoys the outdoors, working with the public, and taking on a leadership role. If you’re confident, personable, and thrive in a dynamic environment, this could be a highly rewarding summer opportunity.

As Boat Captain, you will safely pilot the vessel while delivering an engaging narration throughout the cruise. You’ll interact directly with guests and crew, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for everyone on board.

What you'll bring:

  • A genuine enjoyment of public speaking and storytelling

  • Strong teamwork skills

  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

  • A customer-focused attitude

Previous boating experience on a pleasure craft is an asset. Successful candidates will receive practical training, first aid certification, and marine safety training prior to Transport Canada certification.

 

Schedule:

  • 2–5 days per week

  • Shifts may vary:

    • 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

    • 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

    • 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

  • Season runs from late May to early October

FRONT DESK RECEPTIONIST
Position available: 1

We are seeking a  part-time, seasonal  Front Desk Receptionist to join our team.  As the first point of contact for our customers, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming experience and handling inquiries with courtesy..  The ideal candidate will have strong administrative skills, be able to switch between tasks efficiently & have a positive attitude. 

Saturday and/or Sunday availability is required, with flexibility for weekdays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage front desk operations, including greeting  guests in a friendly and professional manner

  • Handle inquiries and reservations in person and over the phone

  • Ability to handle cash and payments 

  • Perform general administrative and clerical tasks

  • Support office supervisor with additional office tasks as needed to maintain operational efficiency

What We're Looking for:

  • Dependable and flexible with weekend availability

  • Strong administrative abilities with keen attention to detail

  • Able to always stay professional and guest-focused

LAWN CARE & GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Positions Available:  1

Ideal for retired person who enjoys gardening and lawn maintenance and can assist with minor repairs.

Position Details:

  • Perform garden maintenance, including planting, pruning, and weeding.

  • Assist with landscaping/property maintenance tasks as needed

  • Experience using a zero-turn mower

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience using a zero-turn mower is an asset 

  • Capable of troubleshooting maintenance issues and performing basic repairs including light carpentry and minor plumbing

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

​​Grand River Dinner Cruises is seeking a dependable and motivated Cook to join our team for the upcoming season.  You will be preparing food onshore before our cruise departures, so strong time-management skills are essential.  If you take pride in creating delicious home-style food and enjoy working independently , we’d love to hear from you!   

Morning availability is required

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare meals using standardized recipes

  • Maintain consistent portion control

  • Ensure food is ready on schedule to support our cruise departures

  • Prepare meals in our shore-based kitchen for banquet-style service aboard our boats

The kitchen is located in our shore-based kitchen, which is not air-conditioned, so being comfortable working in a warm environment is essential.

Schedule details:

  • Morning shifts starting at approximately 6:00 a.m.

  • 2-3 shifts per week, totaling 10-20 hours hours per week

  • Shifts range from 4 hours (weekdays) to 9 hours (weekends)

  • Flexible scheduling Tuesday through Sunday

Requirements:

  • Food Handler’s Certificate (required)

BOAT CLEANER

Ideal for high school students. This person will clean our 3 dinner cruise boats either early morning or after school. Duties include vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning windows, wiping down tables, and cleaning bathrooms. If the person has experience riding lawnmowers, this position could include grass cutting.  Must be reliable and work well unsupervised.

  • Tuesday to Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. or evenings anytime after school

  • May 21 to October 10​
